When I'm not working, you can find me spending time with my family. I have a four-year-old and two-year-old so a lot of my time these days is spent chasing them around, watching episodes of Bluey and trying to tackle the never ending pile of laundry!
I love baking and trying new gluten free recipes, watching reality tv, and taking spin classes at my local spin studio.
I'm dedicated to supporting parents, caregivers, and children alike. Let's navigate your parenting triggers together, creating a more compassionate and connected experience for everyone involved.
CREDENTIALS & TRAINING
I provide an initial 15-minute phone or video consult free of charge to help you to determine if I am the right person to support you, your child, or family.
Please email at mikaealgrigg.counselling@gmail.com or call 587 815 8351 to book or ask any other questions!
The next step is scheduling an intake meeting, where we review consent, provide therapy information, address your questions, and discuss challenges, goals, and treatment plans.
Child intake meetings involve parents/caregivers and the therapist to understand the child's history, needs, and concerns for a tailored treatment plan.
For teen counselling with the teen present, contact me for a case-by-case discussion.
Payment is due at the time of service – I can accept cash, credit or e-transfer to mikaelagrigg.counselling@gmail.com.
I can directly bill to several insurance providers, including Blue Cross, ASEPB, Canada Life, Canada Life PSHCP, DesJardins, and more via the Telus Health Portal. If your provider doesn't allow direct billing (e.g., SunLife), I'll provide a receipt for reimbursement. Contact your insurance provider or employer for coverage inquiries.
I emphasize open communication with parents and encourage kids to share what they learn in counselling.
However, your child's session is their time, with updates given in separate parent sessions for progress, goals, and suggestions. We respect children's confidentiality in counselling, sharing general progress but not specifics without their permission, except for safety concerns, which are immediately communicated.
It's important to prepare your child for the session. Here are some tips:
Timing: Choose a calm moment to talk about therapy, avoiding high-stress times.
Explore their knowledge: Ask what they know about therapy to provide accurate information.
Discuss the reason: Explain why therapy would benefit them, focusing on their feelings and needs.
Use age-appropriate language: Tailor your explanation to their understanding, using metaphors if needed.
Normalize therapy: Let them know many children attend counseling, and it's a normal way to get help. Sharing your own experiences can be helpful.
